Sonal's modelling career began when she was seen in the ads of brands like Ponds, Dish TV, and Nokia. Her glamorous face appeared on the cover page of The Man Magazine and FHM. At the India International Jewelry Week 2011, she was the show-stopper for jewellery brand YS18. 

Himesh Reshammiya's Aap Ka Suroor was her first album. Her debut Hindi film was Kunal Deshmukh's Jannat. For playing the role of Zoya Mathur in Jannat, Sonal even got nominated for the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut.

Sonal Chauhan's ex-boyfriend Sahil Zaroo was accused in a drug case. It was also said that Sahil Zaroo slapped Sonal Chauhan in an airport once.

In the field of modelling, Sonal Chauhan was the first Indian to win the Miss World Tourism title in the year 2005. In the field of acting, she had been nominated three times.

Firstly, she was nominated for Stardust Awards for Superstar of Tomorrow-Female. Next, she was nominated for Filmfare Awards for Best Female Debut. These two nominations were for her first film Jannat. 

She was again nominated for Stardust Award for breakthrough Supporting Performance Female in Bbuddah…Hoga Terra Baap. She has won TRs TV National Film Awards for the most promising actress for Dictator.
