Nithya has played numerous roles in various South Indian movies including Malayalam, Kannada, Telugu and Tamil films.

Nithya Menen made her acting debut with an Indian English Language film named ‘The Monkey who knew too much’ in the year 1998, while she made her singing debut in the year 2010 with ‘Payasa’ which was recorded in Kannada language, followed by ‘Edo Anukunte’ in Telugu in 2011, ‘Ammammo Ammo’ in Malayalam in 2011 and ‘Hi My name is Malini’ in Tamil in 2013. Nithya appeared for the first time in the world of television in 2001 with the Hindi soap Choti Maa...Ek Anokha Bandhan. Her first movie as a lead role was a Kannada movie named 7 o’clock. 

Awards

Nithya Menon was nominated for the best actress and best playback singer category many times, right through 2011, but her first award came along at the Filmfare awards for best actress category for her Telugu flick ‘Gunde Jari Gallanthayindde’ in the year 2014. She even received the Nandi Awards in the category Special Jury award for her outstanding performance in the Telugu film ‘Malli Malli Iddhi Rani Roju’ in the year 2016. She was also awarded the Best Supporting actress Filmfare award for the movie ‘Mersal’ in Tamil in the year 2018. 

Trivia

Nithya Menon wanted to become a journalist as she was an idealist and had even studied Journalism at the Manipal University, however she dropped the idea as she thought journalism was no longer what it used to be. She then took up acting as her career option as she believed cinema was the best platform to express one’s ideas and feelings.
