Karan Johar still prefers to stay unmarried. Once upon a time, rumours were that Karan Johar was in a close relationship with Shah Rukh Khan and the famous designer Manish Malhotra. While Karan himself cleared off the relationship tags with Shah Rukh Khan by dedicating him as a father figure; there are still no clarifications about his relationship with Manish Malhotra.
KJo was born and brought up in the metropolitan city of Mumbai. Yash and Hiroo Johar are his parents. February 2017 brought in heaps of happiness at Karan’s place. It was the moment when Karan became a father through surrogacy.
About primary education, Karan Johar visited Greenlawns High School. Later, he enrolled himself at H.R. College of Commerce and Economics to complete his further education. He holds a Master’s degree in the French language.
Initially, he stepped in as an actor in the Indian television industry. He enacted Shrikant’s role in Indradhanush (1989 Doordarshan Serial). Religiously following Raj Kapoor, Sooraj R. Barjatya and his father Yash Chopra, he gave his best in the industry.
As an assistant director, he marked his presence in the Indian film industry. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge was his first assignment as an associate director. Later, he came ahead with his directorial debut Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. This film earned him name and fame in the Indian film industry much beyond his expectations.
In 2001, he came up with another film named Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham. Like the previous one, even this film bagged in the title of a blockbuster on screen. Subsequently, he came up with Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006), My Name is Khan (2010), Student of the Year (2012), Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016), and so on.
Besides being a reckoned director, Karan Johar contributed tremendously towards the production of notable films under Dharma Productions. Kal Ho Naa Ho, I Hate Luv Storys, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani are some of the films produced by him that went on to be a massive success on-screen.
Karan Johar also gave cameo appearances in the blockbuster films like Fashion, Om Shanti Om and Luck By Chance. In Anurag Kashyap’s Bombay Velvet, he enacted the role of an antagonist.
Not to forget, Karan’s dedication towards designing costumes for his father figure- Shah Rukh Khan! Koffee with Karan featured Karan Johar as the lead host of the show. The show has had multiple seasons right from the year of its commencement. Since the year 2012, Karan Johar stepped in as the show judge on many of the reality shows of the Indian television industry.
Like every other person associated with the Indian film industry, Karan Johar too had faced controversies. Karan Johar rose to the centre of debates when he confessed before Akshay Kumar that he was madly in love with his wife, Twinkle Khanna. Right from the issues of keeping his sexual orientation personal to his interference in the love triangle of Priyanka Chopra, Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan, Karan has faced it all brilliantly. Besides, none of his Twitter followers could ever forget the bash he had with Ram Gopal Varma over his film Student of the Year.
Amongst delicacies, Karan prefers to indulge in Parsi food. Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Rani and Hrithik are his all-time favourite faces from the Indian film industry. Whenever he feels lonely, he makes a visit to Starbucks Coffee in Mumbai.
