Genelia D’Souza is a Bollywood actress who made her acting debut primarily in the South Indian cinema before coming to the limelight as one of the leading ladies in the Indian film industry.

D’Souza was reportedly dating her co-star Riteish Deshmukh whom she met while filming for Tujhe Meri Kasam in 2003. Eventually, the star couple solemnised their relationship in a traditional Marathi wedding ceremony on 3rd February 2012. They have two sons, Riaan and Rahyl.
Genelia D’Souza was born on 5th August 1987 in Mumbai. Genelia hails from a Marathi speaking Christian family from North Konkan. Genelia’s father Neil D'Souza is a senior officer with Tata Consultancy Services while her mother Jeanette was a managing director of the Pharma Multinational Corporation. Her mother eventually quit her job to help her daughter with her career. Genelia’s brother, Nigel D'Souza, is an employee at the Bombay Stock Exchange. Genelia had completed her school education from the Apostolic Carmel High School in Bandra and completed her Bachelors in Management Studies from St. Andrew’s College in Bandra.
One can remember coming across Genelia as a young lass brimming with vitality and confidence in a Parker Pen advertisement opposite Amitabh Bachchan. She was the talk of the tinsel town thereafter, and bagged roles in three movies back to back in three different languages, Tujhe Meri Kasam (Hindi), Satyam (Telugu) and Boys (Tamil). Her debut Hindi movie, Tujhe Meri Kasam was a box-office success. Her Tamil debut as the teenaged girl Harini in the teen-film Boys, dealt with teen fantasises as its theme and was a box-office hit, yet again. Her portrayal of a medical student in Telegu film Satyam was received extremely well by the critics.
Genelia’s debut in Telegu film industry was impressive which consequently enhanced her profile in the Telegu film industry. In 2006 she appeared in three Telegu language films Happy, Raam and Bommarillu. Bommarillu, a romance drama was a blockbuster hit. In 2007, D’Souza portrayed the role of the sister of a local thug in the blockbuster Telugu gangster movie Dhee, set against the backdrop of a gang war. In the year that followed, Genelia appeared in the Telugu romantic thriller Mr. Medhavi, in which she essayed the role of a student from Canada which was a huge commercial success.
Genelia catapulted back to instant stardom in Bollywood with her comeback in 2008 movie Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na, which was a blockbuster success. She also appeared in Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya opposite her spouse Riteish Deshmukh in 2012. In 2014, Genelia made cameo appearances in Jai Ho and Lai Bhaari.
Genelia D’Souza won the 2007 Filmfare Award in the Best Actress category for her performance in Bommarillu on the behalf of the Telugu Film Industry. She was also the recipient of the Nandi Award in 2010.
Genelia was in the midst of a controversy in connection to the 2011 film Force, which featured herself and her co-star John Abraham in a marriage sequence where the entire scene was filmed in presence of a real priest and in observance of all the traditional marriage rituals. Following the reports of Genelia and Deshmukh’s marriage plans, the priest landed up at producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah’s office and created a brouhaha claiming Genelia being already married to Abraham as all the marriage rituals were religiously observed in course of the sequence.
Her favourite holiday destinations are Italy and London.
Genelia's name is the portmanteau of her father's name Neil and that of her mother’s, Jeanette.
