Early Life
Catherine Tresa hails from a Malayali Roman Catholic family. She was born as Catherine Tresa Alexander to Tresa Alexander and Frank Mario Alexander in Dubai. She completed her schooling in Dubai and studied at St. Joseph’s College, Bengaluru. She has a brother, Christopher Alexander. Prior to becoming an actress, Catherine worked as a model for various brands such as Chennai Silks, Fast Track and Deccan Chronicle.
Career
Catherine Tresa stormed into the film scene with her acting debut in 2010 Kannada movie Shankar IPS alongside Duniya Vijay. Catherine forayed into Mollywood, with her staid yet graceful presence in films like The Thriller and Uppukandam Brothers: Back In Action. She confessed that her role in the Kannada film Vishnu was the polar opposite of her character in real life.
Catherine's next Kannada film was Sethu Sriram directed Godfather, where she paired up with Upendra. She delivered a flamboyant performance of a mentally retarded woman, which also earned her very first nomination for the Best Supporting Actress at the 60th Filmfare Awards in South.
Next, she signed up for 2013 film Chammak Challo directed by Neelakanta, in which she essayed the role of a poised, bold and spunky city girl, which was a box office flop. Nevertheless, her performance gained attention and received rave reviews.
Catherine also featured as one in Puri Jagannath's Telugu film Iddarammayilatho. The film saw the light of the day on June 2013 and won her positive reception from leading newspapers like Times of India and webzine Shirirag.com etc, and all endorsed the view of Catherine having the potential to make it big in the film industry.
She was next seen in Paisa by Krishna Vamsi where she again delivered a bonzer performance with her deft portrayal of an introvert and sweet Muslim girl whose expressive eyes absolutely bowled over the critics and audience alike. In 2014, she ventured into Tamil film scene with Madras in which she starred alongside Karthi. Her second Tamil film was 2016 action thriller Kanithan directed by débutant director Santosh in which she teamed up with actor Adharvaa. She was the part of an ensemble cast in Gunasekhar’s historical fiction Rudhramadevi, which also starred Telegu superstars Anushka Shetty and Rana Daggubati. Catherine also portrayed the lead role opposite Vishnu Manchu in Errabus, which was directed and produced by Dasari Narayana Rao. She was seen in the role of the haute journalist Devika Rani in the 2017 Telegu political thriller Nene Raju Nene Mantri alongside the lead pair of Rana Daggubati and Kajal Agarwal.

Catherine Tresa won the Filmfare Awards South for her performance in the Tamil film Madras in the categories of Best Female Debut and Best Actress Tamil and the prestigious SIIMA Award in the Female Débutante category in 2014.
Controversy
It was rumoured that Catherine Tresa was initially offered the role of the lead heroine in megastar Chiranjeevi’s 150th film Khaidi No. 150. However, she was unceremoniously replaced by Raai Lakshmi as her unprofessional behaviour on the sets of the film vexed Chiranjeevi.
